According to AT&T, the Lightning will provide notebook users with enhanced mobile broadband performance “on the nation’s fastest 3G network” for quick and easy Internet access when attached to one of AT&T’s more than 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspot locations.
Manufactured by Sierra Wireless, the connection enhancer is compatible with AT&T’s High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 technology, which should provide a considerable speed boost to the 3G mobile network whenever the handy little device is called upon.
“The USBConnect Lightning offers an innovative, eye-catching lighted design with a swivel hinge for flexible use in horizontally or vertically oriented USB ports, and we are pleased to offer it exclusively to AT&T customers as the company deploys HSPA 7.2 coverage,” enthused Dan Schieler, senior vice president of Worldwide Sales for Sierra Wireless.
“People continue to expand their use of mobile broadband in their everyday routines wherever they are, and the evolution of the AT&T 3G network and devices like the USBConnect Lightning provide them with the flexibility and freedom to do so,” he added.
Beyond being equipped with an illuminated faceplate and a USB hinge for use with differing notebook designs, the Lightning also comes complete with AT&T Communication Manager (ACM) 7.0 software to help customers better manage their connections (ACM is compatible with the new Windows 7 operating system).
The USBConnect Lightning from Sierra Wireless will hit walk-in and online retail outlets from November 22 and will cost absolutely nowt following a $100 USD mail-in rebate and a monthly DataConnect Plan commitment of at least $35 USD.
