Already saddled with the “Big Book of British Smiles” courtesy of The Simpsons, the beauty of our crooked-toothed cousins from across the pond has this week taken another blow after an online dating agency deemed them some of the ugliest people in the world.

More pointedly, the aptly named BeautifulPeople.com, which only accepts members with dazzling good looks, has revealed the site generally approves only three of every 20 applications received from British women, and only around one in eight from British men.
The approval system is member-based as opposed to being internal, which sees existing BeautifulPeople of the opposite sex determining the suitability of applications by casting their judgements upon new photographic profiles within 48 hours of submission.
More favourable faces applying for the honour of being classed as a beautiful person (at least in the physical sense) belong to Norwegian women, who have a site-leading approval rate of 76 percent, while Swedish men follow close behind with 65 percent.
Beyond the supposed ugly mugs attributed to the Brits, the faces of male applicants from Russia and Poland were deemed to be even more unpalatable for site users – while, conversely, Russian women enjoy an application approval rate of around 44 percent.
