Further extending its reach as a haven for all manner of handy software gimmicks and media extensions, Apple’s hugely popular App Store has now embraced an unofficial application that supports the Xbox 360 videogame console.
Now with support from the Apple App Store. Image: Microsoft.
Geared towards the Xbox 360’s online Xbox Live service, the new ‘360 Live’ app provides iPhone and iPod Touch users willing to hand over a modest $1.99 USD with comprehensive access to their online accounts while away from the console proper.
While remote play is obviously out of the question, access ranges from accepting or denying friend requests, through to exchanging mobile messages with existing Xbox Live friends and seeing which of them is currently online and available.
Other related features connected to 360 Live include secure sign-in, Gamertag and Gamer Profile management, the ability to monitor the game play history of friends, Achievement checking, and a coverflow Gamercard carousel.
Interested Xbox 360 owners with $1.99 USD going spare may wish to hold off on a purchase on the grounds that Microsoft said during the summer of 2008 that any application aligned with Xbox Live must be available to users without charge.
It’s therefore probably only a matter of time before the Redmond-based software titan takes note, flexes its corporate muscles, and the current attached fee disappears completely.
