It’s been a long time coming, but American technology behemoth Microsoft Corp. has finally let slip when its much-anticipated Office 2010 software productivity suite will be ready for distribution.
Unsurprisingly, Office 2010 will arrive in 2010. Fancy that. Image: Microsoft.
With a number of Web sites this week claiming Microsoft will release Office 2010 in the early part of next summer, the Redmond-based outfit has today confirmed to industry watchers Ars Technica that the latest version of Office will indeed arrive this coming June.
“We expect Office 2010 and related products to be generally available in June 2010,” a Microsoft spokesperson told the tech magazine, after it contacted the company regarding the aforementioned online whispers.
When it does begin shipping, the Office 2010 platform will support a total of seven different iterations and will be the very first of Microsoft’s Office releases to support both 32-bit and 64-bit versions on a single disc.
Those versions will range from Starter, Home and Student, Home and Business, and Standard, through to Professional and Professional Plus. There will also be a free ad-supported release that will contain Word and Excel – however, that version will only be offered on new computer hardware.
Mainstay applications packed into Office 2010 will include Access 2010, Communicator 2010, Excel 2010, InfoPatch Designer 2010, InfoPath Filler 2010, OneNote 2010, Outlook 2010, PowerPoint 2010, Publishers 2010, SharePoint 2010, Workspace 2010, and Word 2010.
