Whether it successfully redefines family gaming on the Xbox 360 or arrives as little more than an interactive novelty looking to cash-in on the innovation-hungry Wii demographic, Microsoft’s motion-sensing Project Natal system has been officially confirmed for 2010.

The confirmation inadvertently found its way into the public domain after Microsoft’s very own Channel 9 mistakenly posted a CES video interview with Robbie Bach (president of the software giant’s Entertainment & Devices division), in which he reveals the technology will be widely available before the close of this year.
In related news, Bach also revealed 2010 will play host to Microsoft’s new Xbox Game Room, which will enable 360 owners both old and new to experience the classic delights of retro videogame titles.
“It’s interesting, there’s a generation of people – sort of my advanced, mature age – who grew up with a set of games like Centipede,” outlined Bach.
“They look almost like casual, fun games today – [but] at the time they were high-end, edgy games – and so Game Room is the idea of bringing them back to the market. And bringing that to a very broad audience,” he added.
In suggesting Microsoft has a “spectacular” line-up of core games for 2010, Bach also said the next 12 months will see the release of flagship title Halo: Reach, while the popular Xbox Live online service will expand its parameters yet further.
