While slamming the string paddle and fret buttons on a plastic replica guitar during a session of Guitar Hero is certainly fun for wannabe rock legends, it’s a far cry from actual music creation. However, that’s about to change thanks to the new You Rock Guitar, which is a videogame controller and a genuine guitar rolled into one.
Now you can actually rock... or suck with more authenticity. Image: Inspired Instruments.
Created by Inspired Instruments and showcased during the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the You Rock Guitar is a versatile little axe that comes equipped with proper strings and frets, a multitude of different sounds, compatibility with music editing software and portable music players – and, what’s more, it never needs tuning.
While it can be used as a much more authentic gaming controller for either Guitar Hero or Rock Band, the You Rock Guitar is likely to find its audience with novice musicians looking to aid the learning process, and also professionals keen on adding an extra element of cool to their already generous repertoire of sounds.
In terms of capability, the You Rock Guitar boasts 100 preset guitar and synth sounds, 25 sampled real guitars, a 25-track You Rock mode, and 50 alternate tuning settings – along with a tap mode, a whammy bar, a vibrato joystick, an on-board recorder and support for both MIDI and USB.
Take a look at the comprehensive video clip below to learn more about the You Rock Guitar and see what novices, pros and gamers have to say about its potential and effects.
According to Inspired Instruments, the You Rock Guitar will be ready for its retail arrival in the summer of 2010. Prices have not yet been confirmed.
