Hmm. We're not convinced. Image: 14 Bike Co.
Considering the sudden influx of tablet computers flooding the consumer electronics market over the last 12 months, it’s perhaps not surprising to see all and sundry attempting to cash in—although they have little-to-no experience in the computing space.
Take, for example, the opportunistically enterprising folk at UK-based bespoke bicycle manufacturer 14 Bike Co., who’ve partnered with Samsung to come up with an interesting—if somewhat risky—way to transport your beloved tablet device.
Built specifically to house the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab, the above two-tone, steel-frame racing bike comes complete with a sturdy carbon-fibre holder and bracket that secures the touch-screen computer during transit.
It also leaves said device open to the elements, almost certain damage in the event of an accident, and the predatory eye of anyone who’d like to attain a shiny new bike and a Galaxy Tab without actually having to pay for them.
“Accessible from the side, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 holder allows the device to be used easily whilst on the move,” claims 14 Bike Co. in its press release. Based on the above photo, any such attempt would surely be dicing with danger, no?
Other, slightly less risky uses—at least for those willing to stop first—include access to Android Market applications such as mileage trackers, route planners and even instructions for roadside puncture repair.
While we here at Tech Herald Towers acknowledge the ‘cool-factor’ associated with 14 Bike Co.’s latest offering, this particular writer will keep transporting his tablet by secreted it away in his not-especially-cool-but-always-dependable-over-the-shoulder DJ satchel.
No word yet on availability or pricing.
