Although UK-based videogame retailer GAME is stringently denying that its customer records have been successfully hacked, the same denies are sadly not forthcoming from online shoe retailer Zappos.

More pointedly, Amazon-owned Zappos.com has indeed confirmed that its online service has fallen to a malicious hack and up to 24 million customer accounts may have been compromised as a result.

Despite acknowledging the breach, Zappos is presently insisting that full credit card details and other payment-related information attached to those customer accounts has not been taken.

According to Zappos chief executive Tony Hsieh, information accessed via the hack includes names, phone numbers, email addresses, billing and shipping addresses, and the last four digits of credit card numbers.

In terms of isolating and closing the point of attack, the shoe retailer has said a lone hacker was somehow able to force access through one of its servers in Kentucky.

Zappos, which is presently in the process of emailing notification of the attack to its customer base, recommends that all online store users change their password access immediately and remain mindful of incoming phishing scams.
