If you happen to be a Hewlett-Packard (HP) notebook owner with a computer built between August of 2007 and January of 2008, then it might be worth your while taking note of the following news regarding a battery recall issued by the California-based manufacturer.

While lacking the magnitude of a calamitous worldwide recall (a la the notorious Sony debacle), HP has warned that around 70,000 battery pack units shipped with its notebook and PC devices between the two aforementioned dates could pose a potential safety threat to customers and system owners.

According to HP, the faulty batteries “can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard,” and it is advising customers to peruse a hardware list (see below) to see whether their computer’s model number is included and its onboard manufacturing date sits between August 2007 and January 2008.

If your HP computer happens to be carrying one of the potentially problematic battery packs, it should be dispatched to the company as soon as possible, at which point HP will provide a glitch-free replacement without the customer incurring any additional charge.
