Extending the reach of its existing Phenom and Athlon processors, chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has this week rolled out five new workhorse platforms – three of which are squarely aimed at the more budget end of the computer market.
Of the three lower-tier entrants, two are Athlon based and arrive as the 65W Athlon II X2 255 and the 90W Athlon II X3 440, which offer respective stats of 3.1GHz and 3.0GHz. Ordered in bulk, the X2 255 sits at a price point of $74 USD per chip, while the X3 440 comes in at $84 USD.
Then there’s the 80W Phenom II X2 555 (Black Edition), which runs at 3.2GHz and sits just under the $100 USD barrier at $99 USD.
Likely to test the pockets of AMD partners just a tad further are the 65W Phenom II X4 910e and the 95W Athlon II X4 635, with the Phenom model running at 2.6GHz and a bulk order price of $169 USD and the Athlon runs at 2.9GHz and a price of $119 USD.
