ASUS U36 is 'world's thinnest notebook'

Thin. Lightweight. Powerful. Affordable. Image: ASUS.

When it comes to wafer thin notebook computers, it’s hard to compete with Apple’s product portfolio where svelte style and brand glamour are concerned.

However, if we’re talking relative cost measured against portability, performance and value for money, perhaps the new ASUS U36 could be about to elbow the MacBook squarely in the ribs.

Beyond being billed as the world’s thinnest notebook platform, the otherwise blandly named U36 measures just 19mm ‘thick’ and comes with a nimble Core i5 processor, NVIDIA’s Optimus graphics solution, enough single-charge battery juice to provide 11.5 hours of operation, and a tempting retail price of 699 GBP.

While it may sound like a cramped German attack sub, the U36 also offers a comfortable 13.3-inch screen, 500GBs of data storage, Wi-Fi connectivity (b/g/n), USB 3.0, a grime-resistant and lightweight magnesium alloy chassis, and a shoulder weight of just 1.44kg.

The ASUS U36 is on sale now in colour choices of black or silver through Micro Anvika. It will hit heavyweight high street chain Comet before the close of June.
