This week has already seen the arrival of Dell’s Inspiron Mini 12, which blurs the physicality between Netbooks and notebooks by offering a 12-inch display screen. Following Dell’s unveiling, Netbook giant ASUSTeK has now added its own pseudo category-straddling entrant in the form of the Eee PC 1002HA.

While its 10-inch screen leaves it (just about) more closely associated with the Netbook market, the once predominantly 7-inch Eee PC brand continues to grow ever larger, and the 1002HA certainly seems a far cry from the original ASUS ultra mobile portable computer.

According to on-the-ball French fan site blogeee.net, beyond the viewing advantages of a 10-inch screen, the 1002HA takes its styling influence from the existing ASUS S101, even sporting the exact same chassis design.

Lack of convenient portability aside, the sleek and black 1002HA’s internal performance will see it equipped with Intel’s popular 1.6GHz Atom processor (N270), 1GB of RAM, and a hefty 160GBs of hard disk storage.

Other features set to appear on the latest release from the Eee PC stable include Wi-Fi connectivity, a pair of USB ports, a built-in card reader, and the somewhat odd inclusion of an (underpowered?) twin-cell 4200mAh battery that might struggle to provide sustained mobile operation.

Blogeee offers that the Eee PC 1002HA will come attached to a mainland Europe price of 449 Euros, which equates to approximately 360 GBP. However, other online tech sources claim the 1002HA will be priced much closer to the 300 GBP mark.

When it comes to power, it’s not quite a notebook, and it’s something of a stretch in terms of Netbook mobility. Yet, despite that, the Eee PC 1002HA is still a cheap and cheerful hardware option for Web-centric users willing to embrace the grey area between both categories for the sake of staying on trend.
