Rumour confirmed. ASUS reveals its 'seashell' 1008HA Eee PC. Image: ASUS.
Much as recent product rumours suggested, Taiwan-based computer manufacturer ASUSTeK has this week unveiled its new ‘seashell’ design Eee PC 1008HA Netbook, which boasts a seriously skinny and lightweight profile.
Sleekly white from top to bottom, the 1008HA looks, at first glance, not unlike Apple’s MacBook Air platform. However, given that its specifications fall significantly short of Apple’s popular portable, that’s where the similarities end.
That’s not to say the latest Eee PC to roll off the perpetual ASUS production line isn’t worthy of attention – especially from those tech consumers looking to save a few pennies while securing a solid Web-centric computer that’s as stylish as it is practical.

Boasting a clean, pearl white outer body casing accented by gentle curves, the 1008HA weighs a whisker over a kilo and promises easy portability due to a ‘thickness’ of just one inch.
While performance attributes and pricing have not yet been divulged by ASUS, some contributing features and functions crammed into the computer include a 10-inch LCD display screen, an on-board Web camera, an almost full-size keyboard (92 percent), a multi-touch keypad, HSDPA connectivity and Draft-N wireless.
Given that the 1008HA is clearly a Netbook, it’s more than likely internal capabilities will remain within the existing blueprint laid down by ASUS, which means it will probably carry Intel’s Atom processor (N280) and the new GN40 chipset.
Expect the Eee PC 1008HA to arrive at retail before the summer.
