Despite the emergence of rumors to the contrary, computer manufacturer ASUSTeK (ASUS) has insisted that a 3G-enabled version of its award-winning Eee Pad Transformer is not on the retail horizon.
More pointedly, the Taiwan-based electronics specialist has issued an official statement addressing the rumors, in which it claims that: “no such product exists on its current roadmap.” Current.
Expectant fans of the Eee Pad Transformer might be somewhat disappointed by the news, but ASUS has at least confirmed that 3G connectivity will soon be introduced across other Transformer-branded devices.
It’s likely that will include the new 10.1-inch Transformer tablet it rolled out during last week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which will launch before the close of Q2 in a WiFi-only specification.
The forthcoming addition of 3G into the Transformer family comes after ASUS said it aims to triple its 2011 tablet shipments by the close of 2012—which should see it pushing upwards of 6.0 million devices.
