In yet more news concerning ASUS and Intel, the two consumer technology giants have this week unveiled the Eee PC X101, a brand new Netbook (remember them?) with a small price and big ambitions.
Offered up by Netbook pioneer ASUSTeK, the X101 instantly differentiates itself from the competition thanks to the inclusion of Intel’s Linux-based MeeGo mobile operating system (remember that?).
Although unlikely to inflict more than a cosmetic scratch against the market dominance of Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android, the X101 still sparkles thanks to its 10-inch LCD screen, slender profile of just 0.7 inches, and starting price of $199 USD. We kid you not.
Other core X101 features that may capture the attention of those not thrilled by the current wealth of tablet computers include Intel’s Atom N455 processor (1.6GHz), 1GB of RAM, 16GB of SSD storage, ‘instant-on’ functionality, and support for USB and microSD memory expansion.
The computer will also support configurations including Windows 7 and greater storage capacity via HDD—although at the cost of that tantalising $199 USD price point.
The ASUS X101 will be available in colour choices of White, Black, Red, and Brown.
