If you’re looking for a standalone slice of computer hardware capable of distributing multimedia content around the home, we’d suggest you take a moment to consider Acer’s new Revo 100—which, luck would have it, does exactly that.

Powered by Acer’s recently announced proprietary ‘clear.fi’ technology, the Revo 100 seeks out and connects to all Acer smartphones, Netbooks, PC systems, notebooks and HD media players attached to the user’s home-based network.

Equipped with a dual-core AMD Athlon II Neo processor and 1080p-capable NVIDIA Ion graphics muscle, the Revo 100 is an aesthetically unassuming device that looks not unlike ye olde slimline PlayStation 2 console.

And, as with Sony’s hugely popular gaming platform, the Revo 100 can be placed either vertically or horizontally—the latter position possible thanks to a removable presentation stand.

Other contributing aspects include 4GBs of DDR3 RAM, data storage ceiling of up to 750GBs, a Blu-ray optical drive (or an optional Blu-ray and DVD combo drive), a built-in TV tuner, a multi-card reader, Wi-Fi connectivity, HDMI support, a trio of USB 2.0 ports, and Windows 7 Home Premium.

In support of the Revo 100, Acer is also launching the RevoPad, a dual-mode wireless touchpad that can be used as either a touch keyboard or a multi-gesture touchpad.

Although not yet available in the United States, the new Revo 100 is now shipping in the United Kingdom accompanied by a retail price of 599.99 GBP.
