As the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) looms large, device makers galore are scrambling for pride of place in the media spotlight. One such heavyweight, computer specialist Acer, has this week revealed the Iconia A200, its latest Android-powered tablet.
Equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display, the Acer Iconia A200 is a distinctly mid-range tablet in terms of both specs and its starting price of $329 USD—which makes it $170 USD cheaper than Apple’s entry-level iPad and $130 USD more than Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
Set to launch on January 15, the A200 will initially ship with Android Honeycomb (v3.2). However, Acer has said the most recent Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade of Google’s mobile operating system will be made available in February.
Other points of interest aboard the A200 include a 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a baseline 8GBs of data storage (rising to 16GBs via the $349 USD model), a screen resolution of 1280x800 and up to eight hours of single-charge battery power.
Connectivity is handled by a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1, data transfer and expansion are supported by microUSB and microSD, and video chats are served by a modest front-facing 2.0 mega-pixel camera.
CES 2012 is held in Las Vegas and runs between January 10 and January 13.
