Software specialist Adobe Systems has finally revealed when the next mobile version of its popular online video platform will be released: the date to mark on your calendar of expectation is March 18.

According to Adobe, the finished second iteration of Flash Player for Android devices (v10.2) will be available through the Android Market for Android 2.2 (a.k.a. Froyo) and Android 2.3 (a.k.a. Gingerbread).

A separate beta release for Android 3.0 (a.k.a. Honeycomb) will be offered up on the same day, making the video player available for optimised tablet computers following the operating system’s 3.0.1 update.

That being said, Adobe has warned ahead of time that not all Android-equipped tablets will be compatible with the download.

Its current list of devices capable of hosting Flash 10.2 shows the Dell Streak 5 and Dell Streak 7, the Motorola Xoom, the BlackBerry PlayBook, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

The hugely popular iPad tablet is missing from the list due to the ongoing industry spat that exists between Adobe and Apple—the latter of which has labelled Flash as responsible for causing system crashes on its hardware.

In terms of improvements, Flash 10.2 will deliver increased performance for bell-curve devices carrying GPU-enabled multicore processors, along with hardware-accelerated video presentation, improved scrolling, better battery life and boosted frame rates (for Honeycomb platforms).

At the close of 2010, Adobe said Flash Player was already supported on more than 10 million devices, spanning smartphones, tablets and other consumer electronic products.

Here's the full list of devices compatible with Flash 10.2.
