Following some six months of steady beta testing, software specialist Adobe has this week formally unveiled the Mac version of Flash Player 10.1, which works in conjunction with Apple’s Safari browser (obviously), along with the likes of Firefox and Opera.
Although Apple’s recently issued Safari 5 browser ships with Flash Player 10.0 as standard, those wishing to upgrade to 10.1 can do so by simply visiting the official Adobe site.
Of course, the spread of Adobe’s Flash Player isn’t restricted to Apple Mac products – the two companies hardly share the best of relationships – and, as such, the latest iteration of Flash Player is also available on computer systems carrying Windows, Linux and Solaris.
Some of the new features packaged within Flash Player 10.1 include enhanced data and browsing privacy for Firefox when users are utilising Flash Player in a private browsing window, and DRM content protection for Windows users in order to restrict video playback over analogue or digital outputs.
Adobe is also offering a beta version of Flash Player 10.1 for users of Google’s Android operating system (v2.2). Interestingly, Adobe has not yet released a version of its Flash platform that’s compatible with the Google Chrome browser.
