Dell-owned hardcore computer specialist Alienware has stepped up its assault on the beleaguered bank accounts of hardware enthusiasts everywhere with the unveiling of its latest oomph-worthy and tantalisingly titled Area-51 desktop.

Thanks to it packing an Intel QX9770 Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core processor, with those four cores pumping out clock speeds of 3.2GHz, Alienware is keen to point out that the new Area-51 brings “unprecedented multitasking capabilities to [its] desktops,” which are already synonymous with pushing the boundaries of bleeding-edge computer performance.

Touting Intel’s 45nm microarchitecture and its dynamic thermal management solutions as a core contributor in making the Area-51 the Miami-based company’s most robust gaming platform ever, Alienware claims the desktop will handle virtually anything thrown at it “with power to spare.”

Whether those challenges arrive in the form of next-generation gaming, 3D and video rendering, or day-to-day productivity applications, the Area-51’s performance is further bolstered by the inclusion of a whopping 1600MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), which enables the system to handle faster read/write data speeds between the central processor, memory, and any PCI-Express devices.

“Alienware is about empowering our customers by providing the highest performing, most versatile computers possible,” explained Marc Diana, product marketing manager for Alienware Corporation. “Incorporating the Intel QX9770 processor into our award-winning Area-51 desktop is just one more example of how Alienware is at the forefront of cutting-edge PC technology.”

Factor in the coupling of that QX9770 processor with the new NVIDIA nForce 790i motherboard, support for up to 4GB of DDR3 memory and PCI-E 2.0, and Alienware’s new hulking Area-51 beast looks a near dead cert to tear up the competition.

At prices starting at around $2,100 USD, what will rival hardcore computer maker VoodooPC offer up by way of an answer to Alienware’s latest battlefield entrant?
