Although clearly pleased with consumer interest surrounding its Kindle Fire platform, Amazon has not officially divulged exact sales figures regarding its first foray into the tablet market—which is why we’re so happy to have industry projections.
More pointedly, Stifel Nicolas analyst Jordan Rohan suggests buyers have flocked in droves to the $199 USD Kindle Fire, which, in turn, has seen Amazon shifting some six million units since the device launched on November 15.
“Kindle Fire has staked out an important market position due to its loyal Amazon customer base and attractive (low) device pricing,” offered Rohan in a research note. “We believe the lower hardware price will correlate with high e-book and video content attach rates.”
Further to that, data gathered by Flurry Analytics suggests that the Kindle Fire already accounts for some 36 percent of the market where Android-powered tablets are concerned.
It’s worth noting that, while Flurry’s research was gleaned from software application sessions, Amazon’s market share amongst other Android-carrying tablet vendors matches that of core heavyweight Samsung (Galaxy Tab).
During the tail end of 2011, Amazon took to the rooftops to trumpet that Kindle device sales were hitting around one million per week during the month of December.
Analyst reaction subsequently attributed an estimated 780,000 units of that figure to the Kindle Fire.
