Following on from news that Google is shaping up to take on Facebook and Twitter with its new Google+ social network, the online behemoth is still enjoying some fabulous momentum with its Android operating system (OS).
More pointedly, Android head honcho Andy Rubin has tweeted that around 500,000 smartphones and tablet devices running Google’s mobile OS are being activated every day—which equates to week-on-week growth of 4.4 percent.
In May of this year, Rubin reported that Google was tracking around 400,000 activations per day; while daily activations were said to be hitting the 300,000 mark in December of 2010; and the figure stood at 100,000 a year ago.
In (yet more) related news, online technology blog Boy Genius Report (BGR) is claiming that Google is currently prepping the Nexus Prime, a smartphone handset manufactured by Samsung and equipped with the new ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ variant of Android.
Some of the Nexus Prime’s core features include a Texas Instruments processor capable of running at 1.5GHz, 4G network connectivity, and a Super AMOLED HD touchscreen display (720p).
