If you’ve missed out on the physics-based addiction of Angry Birds due to a lack of appropriate mobile platform, you’ll be pleased to learn that Rovio Entertainment’s hit game series is (finally) moving to desktop computers.
Specifically, ownership of a compatible smartphone or tablet will no longer be a prerequisite from November 25, when Focus Multimedia officially begins distributing Angry Birds via ye olde regular disc.
Although Angry Birds on PC will cost only £10 GBP, which is less than half of a regular PC release, some may find its asking price too high when considering the game can be purchased on mobile devices for as little as £0.69 GBP.
We might also point out that the HD version of Angry Birds is (cough) completely free to play for conventional computer owners that happen to use Google’s streamlined Chrome web browser.
“The PC version puts Angry Birds on the big screen (well, monitor) for that wider non-mobile audience who don’t own or have access to smartphones or tablets,” enthused a spokesman for Focus Multimedia regarding the release.
“Boxed retail is another way to reach more audience,” he added. “Digital and mobile are still at the core of our business, but boxed retail is a good addition for taking the brand forward.”
According to Focus Multimedia, Rovio’s more recent ‘Rio’ edition will arrive before the close of 2011, while ‘Seasons’ will receive a separate disc release during 2012.
The original Angry Birds has been downloaded more than 500 million times.
