Yet more hacktastic events to chew on now following news that Apple Inc., everyone’s favourite Cupertino-based gadget specialist, was stung by a focused online attack over the weekend.
According to the perpetrators, Apple’s corporate security has been breached, which resulted in the unauthorized ‘liberation’ of more than two-dozen usernames and (supposedly) encrypted passwords.
The pilfered server data was published to Pastebin.com and thrust into the security spotlight via a tweet posted to the AnonymousIRC account—just one such location connected to the Anonymous hacking community.
Although labelled as just a warning shot across Apple’s bows as part of its ‘AntiSec’ security campaign, Anonymous said Jobs & Co. could well be a future target for hackers with more shadowy motives.
“Not being serious, but well… Apple could be target, too. But don’t worry, we are busy elsewhere,” outlined the community’s Twitter account.
Apple has not offered any comment on the breach.
