While there’s no denying the popularity of the trend-setting iPhone and iPod Touch handsets, Cupertino-based manufacturer Apple Inc. is always keen to underscore that success with a burst of glowing performance figures. So, without further ado…
…try to act suitably dazzled when we tell you that Apple’s official App Store, which provides iPhone and iPod Touch users with a wealth of free and fee-based downloadable content, now boasts more than 100,000 fun, productive and helpful applications designed to expand the Apple experience.
“The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications available, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world,” enthused Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing at Apple.
“The iPhone SDK [software development kit] created the first great platform for mobile applications and out customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating,” he added.
The App Store shows no signs of slowing its content expansion – and is actually increasing the growth momentum attributed to its portfolio. Moreover, the store’s first year of service saw software developers creating some 65,000 apps for inclusion, while a further 35,000 have been added in just the last four months.
Short of screaming from the industry rooftops, Apple has also said in excess of 50 million iPhone and iPod Touch devices have been snapped up by consumers, while the App Store has shipped out more than two billion downloads since its virtual doors first opened.
