Recently in the news after a landmark 1.5 billion downloads helped further cement its well-established online popularity, Apple’s App Store now looks set to receive an aesthetic boost courtesy of a convenience-based design makeover.
At least that’s the rumour currently doing the rounds after Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook suggested that the App Store has not yet achieved its full potential where effective user interfacing is concerned.
“As you know, today we do it be type of app and also show popular apps and top-selling apps, et cetera,” said Cook during a Tuesday earnings reports conference call. “We realize there’s opportunity there for further improvement and are working on that.”
The App Store’s popularity and its bulging portfolio of some 65,000 downloadable software applications means its virtual shelves are becoming increasingly perused and increasingly cluttered – perhaps giving way to a rethink on how store content is presented, searched for, and retrieved.
As things stand on the App Store, according to industry watchers at Techtree, its categorisation structure tends to see a great many of the more expensive “good apps” missing out on a chance for exposure as they’re often pushed out of the limelight by cheaper, more throwaway offerings.
