The recent loss of Steve Jobs to a rare form of pancreatic cancer could, according to some industry watchers, mark the point where Apple’s bright shining star begins to wane.

And, considering the largely lukewarm reception that followed the official unveiling of the marginally tweaked iPhone 4S, you’d be forgiven for thinking a downward turn may be on the cards.

However, if Cupertino-based Apple does indeed require a timely pick-me-up in light of losing the world’s most iconic chief executive, it got one today courtesy of former Apple executive and company co-founder Steve Wozniak.

In a move of support seen as a something of a personal endorsement for the iPhone 4S, Wozniak was spotted at the front of the queue outside the Apple Store in Los Gatos on Thursday afternoon in order to pick up his latest smartphone upgrade.

“The long wait begins. I’m first in line,” Wozniak revealed through a Twitter post unearthed by NBC. “The guy ahead was on the wrong side and he’s pissed.”

“I’ll be taking a thousand pictures,” Wozniak told a CNN reporter when asked how he planned to while away the hours ahead of release. “I’m [also] going to sit down and see if I can get a little email done.”

Available at retail from Friday morning (that’s today, kids), the iPhone 4S comes equipped with the same A5 processor that powers the iPad 2 tablet, and is supported by an 8.0 mega-pixel camera and voice recognition navigation via Siri technology.
