Although it was initially thought that Apple would require 'a number of weeks' to address current iPhone 4S battery issues, the Cupertino-based gadget maker has released a fix that appears to have improved matters.
More pointedly, Apple has today released its iOS 5.0.1 over-the-air update (790MBs), which “fixes bugs affecting battery life” and also improves voice recognition for disgruntled Siri users in Australia (still no respite for Scottish users yet).
A rush of complaints beset the Apple support forum soon after the iPhone 4S was launched, with many customers noting that their handsets were losing up to 15 percent of their charge capacity every hour—even when unused.
“Frankly, the difference is nothing short of amazing,” commented one happy iPhone 4S owner via Wired. “To go almost an entire day without a change in the meter reading seems unbelievable. Where before I could almost watch the battery drain, now it doesn’t move at all.”
Other tweaks included in the update include the addition of multitasking gestures for the original iPad tablet computer, an bug resolution for problems connected to Documents in the Cloud.
From a security standpoint, Apple has also dealt with five potential vulnerabilities—including the recently discovered App Store code-signing exploit that could enable attackers to covertly install malware onto targeted iPhone handsets.
