As Samsung flexes its iPad-rivalling muscles via the Android-powered Galaxy Tab, gadget and computer specialist Apple is set to increase the appeal of its mobile operating system by rolling out version 4.1 of the iOS platform this coming Wednesday.
At least, that's the current rumour bouncing around the Interwebs after Apple's official UK website let slip that the latest iteration of the iOS software will launch for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch (third and fourth generations) on September 8.
Online technology mag T3 reports that the clumsy moment of slippage was removed almost as quickly as it was posted, and the page in question now merely sports a 'Coming Soon' message – as do the company's French and U.S. websites.
Whenever it does finally arrive, iOS 4.1 will bring features such as Game Centre, iTunes Ping, 99 cent TV show rentals via iTunes, Wi-Fi HD video uploading, and HDR photography with it. It will also iron out existing issues including problems with the proximity sensor.
News of version 4.1 of the iOS platform comes soon after Apple whipped the covers off its new iPod Touch handset, which comes complete with a front-facing camera (for FaceTime), a three-axis gyroscope, and the same retina display and Apple-made A4 processor used in the iPhone 4 handset.
