Computer and gadget expert Apple Inc. has this week released the v2.0.1 Software Update for its recently launched iPhone 3G handset. The new update, which is also compatible with first-gen iPhones running Software 2.0, apparently addresses a selection of security, feature and maintenance issues.
While Cupertino-based Apple isn’t exactly best known for fully detailing its software updates -- its own cursory update description simply claims that 2.0.1 delivers unspecified “bug fixes” -- diligent iPhone users over at fan site AppleInsider have already posted various changes that 2.0.1 brings following the completion of its download.
Some of those changes include: the ability to drag app icons across multiple pages in one fluid motion; more responsive contacts; quicker backups; quicker keypad loads; and smoother screen rotation transitions via the onboard Safari Web browser.
Other reported improvements emerging across the Net include a generally more nimble user interface (UI), increased performance when switching between applications on the smartphone’s home screen, and also quicker sync times too.
Interestingly, although news of actual (important) bug-fixes have yet to emerge from the iPhone community, it would appear that 2.0.1 renders the recently unveiled ‘Pwnage Tool’ jailbreak application completely useless -- which the iPhone-dev team are no-doubt already working to swiftly resurrect.
iPhone users (and also iPod Touch users) looking to download the v2.0.1 Software Update can do so by connecting their devices to the Net and then selecting it from Apple’s iTunes Store via ‘Check For Update’.
The 249.2MB update will download and install following completion of an existing software backup procedure.
