As expected, today’s product adjustment announcement by Apple has seen the Cupertino-based computer and gadgetry maker refreshing its device lines in an effort to deflect consumer interest from Microsoft’s upcoming Zune HD player.
Starting with the iPod Touch multimedia platform – the device closest to the Zune HD – the 32GB non-telephonic iPhone has dropped from $399 USD to a more recession-friendly $279 USD.
Similarly, the 16GB model has fallen by $50 USD to $249 USD. And, not forgetting the smaller 8GB Touch, Apple has dropped its most consumer accessible player by $30 USD to an even more tempting $189 USD.
Moving over to the longstanding conventional iPod line, the 16GB Nano player has shifted from $189 USD to $149 USD, while the 8GB model has been skimmed by $20 USD to $129 USD. The iPod classic has taken a similar $20 USD cut leaving it at $229 USD.
While price cuts are all well and good, and will likely keep the iPod range head and shoulders above the competition, speculation remains that Apple isn’t quite finished shuffling its pack and will announce a selection of hardware adjustments before the close of business on Wednesday.
According to the diligent and dedicated industry watchers at Apple Insider, a new iPod Touch with an on-board digital camera is the most likely new portfolio addition, with other suggestions pointing to a tweaked iPod Touch boasting a whopping 64GBs of data storage.
Microsoft's much talked about Zune HD is due to hit market this coming September 15.
