Europe-based BBC fans equipped with an Apple iPad tablet now have more wide-ranging access to iPlayer, the corporation’s hugely popular online entertainment service.

The new international iPlayer will offer users access to recently broadcast BBC TV shows alongside a wealth of classic shows. The platform will also allow users to download BBC content onto their iPads and watch it while offline.

To plug the sizeable monetary gap caused by offering BBC content to customers in regions that don’t pay the corporation’s annual license fee, the international iPlayer app comes attached to a monthly or annual subscription charges of 6.99 Euro or 49.99 Euro.

If you’re interested in watching BBC iPlayer outside of the UK, it’s officially available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

“We have an exciting vision for what this service could become and will develop it based on feedback from within the markets,” trumpeted Jana Bennett, president of Worldwide networks and global iPlayer at the BBC.

Access to the new international platform arrives via a dedicated software application on the Apple App Store.
