You’d think that being equipped with a smartphone—and therefore instant mobile access to all manner of communication services—would be enough for today’s gadget lovers. Evidently not.
Moreover, the boffins at BERG have come up with the Little Printer, which, as the name suggests, is a diminutive device that connects to smartphone RSS feeds and enables users to print content in a convenient mini-newspaper format.
“Connected to the Web, Little Printer has a wide range of sources available to check on your behalf,” outlines the official BERG website. “Subscribe to your favourites and choose when you’d like them delivered.”
“Right on time Little Printer gathers everything it needs to prepare a neat little personalized package, printed as soon as you press the button,” the UK-based company adds. “You can get deliveries multiple times a day, but we find once or twice works best—like your very own morning or evening newspaper.”
The tiny cube-shaped printer gathers its content by connecting wirelessly to the BERG Cloud platform (via an included router Bridge unit). It also never needs replacement ink as it functions through inkless thermal technology.
While the Little Printer is already supported by content providers such as The Guardian newspaper, Google, FourSquare, Nike and ARUP, we can’t help but wonder… what’s the point?
Specifically, if your smartphone is used to control content flow sent to the Little Printer, then why not simply consume said content via the handset whenever you like? Why bother having it printed out at home? Gimmick much?
BERG has not yet said how much its Little Printer will cost but pre-orders for the device are expected to open in early 2012.
