In a move clearly designed to soften the blow of disappoint this Christmas, American bookselling giant Barnes & Noble has revealed that expectant Nook customers subject to delivery delays will receive $100 USD gift certificates by way of a festive sweetener.

News of the monetary olive branch comes after Barnes & Noble recently warned customers that supply and demand issues connected to its new electronic book reading device would likely leave the company unable to meet promised pre-Christmas delivery dates.

As such, those customers who placed Nook orders with a delivery window of December 24 (or earlier) will now be eligible to receive the $100 USD gift certificate, which will be dispatched to them automatically via e-mail.

Going one step further, although it probably won’t come as much comfort on Christmas morning, Barnes & Noble has also said it will send out a special notification to customers hit by the delivery delay, just so they’re aware the device is still destined to arrive, albeit a tad late.

For those prospective Nook owners who ordered their electronic readers for delivery on or before December 24, Barnes & Noble has said their devices will be sent out via a overnight courier service in order reach their destinations by December 29.
