Modern day mod king Ben Heck (a.k.a. Benjamin J. Heckendorn) seems able to work his irresistible brand of hardware modification magic on virtually anything that’s lucky enough to be laid before him.
In this case, the Heckster has turned his mod amplifier up to 11 with the unveiling of the rather fabulous Xbox 360 Elite Laptop. Granted, detractors might choose to chime that Microsoft’s videogame console is merely a PC masquerading in a fancy outer casing anyway, but what we’re talking about here is the genius of squeezing that gaming hardware down into a laptop casing - which also happens to look extremely appealing in a distinctly fanboy way.
While The Tech Herald doesn’t pretend, even for a moment, to fully understand how Heckendorn has managed to accomplish this feat, we just know that we’re grateful for his illustrated walkthrough… and that we want one, please.
The Xbox 360 Elite Laptop comes resplendent with a Halo 3 theme design, and internal specs which include a 120GB HDD, the new 65nm CPU, a special direct DMI-to-DVI connection, a 17-inch LCD display, Wi-Fi connectivity, and even a built-in Xbox Live camera.
And, if that’s not enough, the fun-loving creator has even thrown in a video clip of the Xbox 360 Elite Laptop in action, which is well worth checking out, especially if you happen to be a fan of 2K’s award-winning underwater epic BioShock.
Other gaming products to be transmogrified by Heckendorn include the Atari 800 Laptop, the Portable NES (NESp), the Portable SEGA Genesis (SEGA Exodus), and the Wii Laptop.
Beyond his passion for hardware modification, Heckendorn is also a published writer and an independent film maker. His creations have appeared in publications such as Wired, Maxim, and Popular Science.
