Seems the new week has brought with it yet another deluge of fresh mobile phone handsets eager to separate us from our hard-earned green. With AT&T’s duo of WiMo 6.5 smartphones already filling out the morning role call, T-Mobile and Samsung would like us to spare a moment for the Behold II.

While it may sound like a straight-to-DVD action sequel starring Jason Statham, the Behold II actually arrives as a full touch-screen mobile platform powered by the increasingly popular Android operating system and supported by Samsung’s touch-feely TouchWiz user interface.

Expected to officially arrive on the market in time for 2009’s holiday season, the multimedia-friendly Samsung Behold II will offer “a rich mobile experience” thanks to a 3.2-inch AMOLED touch screen, widget support for easy customisation and personalisation, its exclusive carriage on the T-Mobile USA’s high-speed 3G network.

“T-Mobile continues to expand our line-up of Android-powered phones in time for the holiday season with the addition of the Samsung Behold II,” enthused Travis Warren, director of product management at T-Mobile USA.

“The premium screen and quality camera coupled with Samsung’s innovative cube menu makes the Behold II a multimedia powerhouse that’s made even stronger by T-Mobile’s high-speed 3G network,” he added.

Other contributing features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, personal and corporate e-mail via Exchange ActiveSync, an onboard MP3 player, assisted GPS, support for up to 16GBs of external memory, and a 5.0 mega pixel camera with autofocus, flash, five shooting modes, and video capture.

Given the Google-backed Android operating system, the Behold II also carries Google services such as Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Talk, along with access to a wealth of applications and downloads from the online Android Market.

Prices for the Behold II have not yet been confirmed.
