Following the recent news of Netflix's decision to back Blu-ray exclusively, the high-definition format will be getting another major supporter in it's quest for HD domination.
According to the latest press release from Best Buy, the largest consumer electronics retailer in the nation, the company will recommend Blu-ray to customers who are confused about which format to choose.
"Consumers have told us that they want us to help lead the way. We've listened to our customers, and we are responding," said Brian Dunn, Best Buy's president and chief operating officer. "Our decision to shine a spotlight on Blu-ray Disc players and other Blu-ray products is a strong signal to our customers that we believe Blu-ray is the right format choice for them."
It is no question that competing products make it difficult for the average person to choose one side and hope that they didn't pick a dying format. This is especially true for physical media. But with news of Blockbuster, Warner Bros. and now Netflix and Best Buy hopping on the Blu-ray bandwagon, one can only wonder when the HD DVD camp will fold.
Best Buy will start showcasing and recommending Blu-ray as the main high-def format as early as March of this year.
