If you’re a prospective iPhone consumer left a little flat after the recent pricing disappointment related to Walmart’s official stocking of Apple’s iconic smartphone, then perhaps you should consider turning your attentions towards Best Buy.

Currently, brand new 8GB and 16GB variants of the iPhone can be bought from Best Buy Mobile stores for a respective $199 USD and $299 USD, but its shelves will now also include models that have been returned within 30 days of purchase for $150 USD and $250 USD.

Considering the ongoing trend of economic belt tightening, Best Buy’s refurbished units will likely appeal to those pennywise gadget lovers not presently prepared to dig deep to meet the touch-screen handset’s full asking price.

“This is focusing on customers’ needs, trying to provide as wide a range of products and networks for our customers,” outlined Scott Moore, vice president of marketing for Best Buy Mobile, in a Reuters report.

And, adding another potentially attractive dimension to its iPhone offer, Best Buy is also allowing first-generation iPhone EDGE owners to upgrade their handsets in favour of the newer, high-speed broadband 3G version.

Retail rival Walmart began selling the 8GB and 16GB iPhone soon after Christmas 2008, undercutting Best Buy by a couple of dollars on both models when attached to a mandatory two-year AT&T service contract.

Best Buy insists its offer of refurbished models is not in response to the actions of other retailers.
