Renowned fantasy RPG specialist Bethesda Softworks has this week announced it will be publishing a brand new sword-slashing property called Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, which is presently in development at inXile Entertainment.

Considering Bethesda’s proven pedigree when it comes to carefully selecting and producing hit videogames (Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion), there’s every chance Hunted will enjoy similar momentum when it hits the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Games for Windows.

Also supporting that notion is inXile Entertainment founder and veteran developer Brian Fargo, he of Baldur’s Gate, The Bard’s Tale and the original Fallout, who is certainly excited to be crafting Hunted under Bethesda’s banner.

“We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda Softworks on this upcoming release that takes us back to our roots,” enthused Fargo. “Bethesda’s track record speaks for itself and the game we are developing for them is no exception.”

While little is presently known about Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, the game’s brief description paints it as “an unforgettable cooperative action game” that will pit two cover-hugging players against “waves of vicious enemies” as they assume the roles of ranged expert E’lara or master swordsman Caddoc. In essence: co-op dungeon crawler meets Gears of War with medieval weaponry.

“The dark ages have become corrupted. Heinous creatures have emerged from underground. Townsfolk across the land are disappearing,” outlines the official Bethesda website. “Upon the promise of their fortune in gold, mercenaries E’lara and Caddoc take on the daunting task of discovering where the innocent villagers have been taken.”

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge does not yet have a release date. We’ll let you know when that factoid is confirmed by either Bethesda or inXile.
