Good news for organizers of the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) after it was revealed that this year’s high-profile Las Vegas event attracted some 153,000 attendees.
Putting that figure into context, it beats the 149,000 that flocked to the 2011 tradeshow and makes CES 2012 the most successful turnout in the show’s long 44-year history.
Taking a closer look at the appeal of CES, its latest offering of all-things tech drew 3,100 international exhibitors and served as a spotlight for the debut of 20,000 new consumer devices.
Of those new products, touch-screen tablet computers, smartphone handsets and Ultrabook portable computers took most of the limelight—along with swanky 3D printers and boundary-pushing OLED televisions.
While this year’s numbers are impressive, it remains to be seen whether Microsoft’s confirmed departure from all future CES events significantly impacts attendance figures from 2013.
