Japanese tech specialist Toshiba is reportedly preparing to use the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to showcase yet another entrant into the gradually expanding market of tablet computers.

According to an AP report, the ‘Toshiba Tablet’ will carry version 3.0 of Google’s Android operating system (a.k.a. Honeycomb) and will also boast a 10.1-inch screen, which makes it a tad more spacious than Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad.

Other fixtures and fittings include NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 mobile processor, a rear-facing 5.0 mega-pixel camera, a front-facing 2.0 mega-pixel camera, Full HD 1080p, and support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, HDMI, GPS, mini USB, and microSD memory expansion.

Although Toshiba is remaining tight-lipped regarding the device, it’s expected to officially launch during the summer and should retail for between $500 USD and $800 USD (depending on data storage capacity and given network provider).

A fresh-faced tablet offering from Toshiba might go some way to rekindle customer appeal following recent concerns surrounding the Toshiba Folio 100.

In November of 2010, the Folio 100 was hit with negative press when a Flash bug aboard the tablet led European retailers such as Dixons, Curry’s and PC World to temporarily pull the device.

The Consumer Electronics Show kicks off in Las Vegas on January 6 and runs through to January 9.
