Computers can be so frustrating that wanting to blast problematic hardware with a projectile weapon is probably something we’ve all felt at one time or another.

If you’re easily angered by computer technology, and happen to have a shotgun to hand, data storage expert ioSafe suggests preserving your important files with its new Rugged Portable Drive.

Described as “the world’s most rugged portable drive” and designed to withstand drop shocks of up to 20 feet, ioSafe is so confident regarding its latest HDD and SDD offering that it has even put the device to the test at a shooting range.

“It has a full metal jacket and it is machined out of a solid billet of aluminium,” enthused ioSafe CEO Robb Moore. “And it also comes in a titanium flavour… that’s machined out of a chunk of titanium.”

During video footage of the event, which you can view below, the Rugged Portable Drive retained its functionality despite being hit by a 12-gauge shotgun blast—and even a bullet from an M16 rifle.

Beyond its chances of surviving a sudden firefight, the drive will apparently also function after being submerged in water for up to three days at a depth of up to 30 feet (titanium SSD version).

Other aspects aboard the drive include USB 3.0 and FireWire connections, and one-year’s free support from ioSafe’s data recovery service.

The ioSafe Rugged Portable Drive will arrive with a starting price of $150 USD and will be available in storage sizes ranging from 250GBs to 1TB.
