Chances are PlayStation Network (PSN) users in Canada are feeling a little more cheesed off than usual today.
Moreover, having had to wait far longer than PlayStation 3 owners in the U.S. and Europe to access the PSN Video Store, its eventual launch has been beset by annoying glitches and content failures.
According to a report by ShackNews, the Canada Day launch of the online video store has suffered “a slew of crippling bugs,” which include instances of missing rental pages when perusing television episodes and also download errors connected to listed movie titles.
Apparently the launch problems do not affect the downloading of videogames from the PlayStation Store’s virtual shelves.
Sony’s PSN Video Store launched on July 15 of 2008 in the United States, and on November 20 of 2009 in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain.
Some of the heavyweight content providers supporting Sony’s video service include the likes of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Lionsgate, Warner Bros., Walt Disney, Paramount, HBO and NBC.
While Sony has not yet issued any official comment on the Canadian PSN Video Store’s bumpy launch, we’d expect any problems to be swiftly ironed out.
Following the ShackNews report – but not necessarily in light of it – the Sony PlayStation Blog has announced that Canadian PSN Video Store visitors can grab themselves a free copy of Charlie’s Angels between July 1 and July 14.
Generous gesture or glitch guilt?
