Arriving some four years after the acclaimed EOS 5D Mark II camera, imaging specialist Canon has this week finally unveiled its official EOS 5D Mark III successor.

Likely to attract the more ‘discerning’ and ‘affluent’ photography enthusiast, the Mark III is a DSLR entrant that boasts a 22.3 mega-pixel CMOS sensor and an impressive 61-point autofocus system—which is the same as that used aboard professional EOS-1D X

Other contributing aspects designed to loosen wallet clasps include, an ISO range of 100-25600 (expandable to 102,400), In-camera High Dynamic Range (HDR), a full-resolution shooting speed of 6fps, a built-in headphone jack, and Full HD video recording at 1080p with improved reduction of moiré and artifact noise.

Although the following may not boost the Mark III’s desirability from a technical standpoint, the chassis body is more ergonomic than the Mark II model, which should therefore enhance levels of user comfort in something far removed from a standard compact.

Set for retail availability before the close of March, the EOS 5D Mark III is expected to cost $3,500 USD in its body-only configuration; a kit including a 24-105mm f/4 zoom lens pushes the price up to $4,300 USD.
