Having already scored a massive commercial and critical hit with the hugely addictive 'Angry Birds', videogame publisher Chillingo's latest software offering 'Cut the Rope' has more than built on that momentum and smashed sales records in the process.

More pointedly, Chillingo has revealed that its new physics-based puzzle game has become the fastest-selling release ever on Apple's App Store, shifting more than a million copies around the world in its first 10 days of download availability.

Proving the instant popularity of Cut the Rope, which costs just $0.99 USD on the iPhone and $1.99 USD on the iPad, the game already tops the App Store charts in Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Sweden and the United States.

“Cut the Rope's popularity has skyrocketed throughout recent days as fans eagerly share with others how addictive and fun the gameplay is on iOS devices,” trumpeted Chillingo director Chris Byatte in an App Whisperer report.

If you'd like to sample Cut the Rope and its seemingly simplistic but addictively inventive 'guide the candy into the monster's mouth' gameplay, free trial versions of the game are also available for download.

Chillingo's Angry Birds, which involves hurling a variety of appropriately angry birds at greedy pigs who've stolen their eggs and are hiding within collapsible buildings, has sold more than six million copies on the iPhone alone.
