This technology news writer has been a fan of Google’s streamlined and swift Chrome browser for a long time. In short, I love its simplicity, its feature set, its stability, and its ease of use.
And, even though I’m forced to use Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) while navigating The Tech Herald’s admin, my day-to-day browsing is taken care of by Chrome. It’s therefore absolutely no surprise to learn that Chrome is becoming increasingly more powerful in the browser market.
That’s according to a StatCounter report covering the last three weeks, which shows that the latest version of Chrome (15) pulled in 24 percent of the global share and beat out the most widely used version of Internet Explorer in the process (22.9 percent for IE8).
Granted, Microsoft’s browsing platform remains the dominant force when factoring in all the different versions being used around the world (39.5 percent), but Chrome’s spike against Internet Explorer 8 still shows solid traction on the front line.
In terms of assessing Chrome’s continuing growth, StatCounter attributes it to the browser’s ability to attract business users as well as those looking to enjoy personal usage.
Meanwhile, Mozilla’s Firefox (version 8) secured third place by pulling in 14 percent of the browser market, while Internet Explorer 9 (which requires Vista or Windows 7) took fourth with a 10.4 percent share.
