In a substantial dollar move that will likely bolster its strength in the IT arena, global PC heavyweight Dell Inc. has today announced the acquisition of Texas-based information technology specialist Perot Systems.

According to a press statement released by Dell, the two parties have entered a definitive transaction agreement that will see the computer maker shelling out approximately $3.9 billion USD.

“The acquisition will result in a compelling combination of two iconic information-technology brands,” trumpeted Dell, before highlighting expected benefits through immediate, long-term growth and efficiency.

According to Dell, the absorption of Perot Systems will result in the availability of a broader range of optimised IT services and solutions, an extension of Perot Systems’ international capabilities, and the linking of leading Dell customers with those of Perot Systems.

“Over the past four quarters, Dell and Perot Systems had a combined $16 million in enterprise-hardware and IT services revenue,” added Dell in its release, “with about $8 million from enhanced services and support.”

Once the acquisition has been completed, Perot Systems will become Dell’s services unit, which will be led from Plano, Texas, by Pete Altabef, the IT company’s current CEO.
