In yet more Dell-flavoured news, the American computer manufacturer has offset the sudden cancellation of its Streak 5 portable with the unveiling of two new Vostro notebooks.
First up is the svelte Vostro V131, which is available with vastly improved battery life than its immediate V130 predecessor and is powered by Intel’s ultra-low voltage Intel Celeron 847. The V131 is also available with Intel’s slightly more demanding Core i3 2310M or Core i5 2410M processing options.
Beyond battery life boosted from two to almost 10 hours, other contributing aspects include WWAN, WiMAX, LTE, and Wi-Fi connectivity, a HD webcam, dual-array microphones, SRS Premium Voice Pro, advanced hard drive security via a fingerprint reader, and optional SSD data storage.
Then there’s the Vostro 14z, which comes with second-gen Core i3 or Core i5 processing (Sandy Bridge), a 14-inch 720p display (1366x768), either 4GBs or 8GBs of RAM, and Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit).
Other fixtures and fittings include a built-in DVD drive, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, up to 750GBs of hard drive storage (optional 128GB storage via SSD), and support for mini DisplayPort, HDMI, an SD card reader, and USB 3.0.
Dell has also announced a 13.3-inch version of the Vostro 14z, which is called the 13z (no surprises there). That particular model is presently only available in the Asian market.
The Vostro 14z is available at a starting price of $600 USD, while prospective buyers should expect to pay around $450 USD for the Vostro V131.
