We all know right from wrong. We all know we shouldn’t use a mobile phone while driving. We all know distraction behind the wheel can cause potentially fatal accidents. We all know there are consequences if caught breaking the law.
It’s therefore almost impossible for The Tech Herald to muster any sympathy for 34-year-old David Secker of Norwich, who’s had his license revoked after being nabbed using not one, but two mobiles while driving.
Authorities spotted Mr. Secker, who hails from the village of Sprowston, with a mobile phone in either hand while bombing along the A47 at 70 miles per hour in his sporty Vauxhall Tigra.
According to related media reports, Mr. Secker was controlling the vehicle with his knee as he retrieved and transferred a phone number from one handset to a waiting caller on the other. He was also driving without insurance.
“He was seen holding a mobile phone to his right ear and, as he moved closer, the [patrolling] officer saw he was holding another phone in his other hand as though he was texting,” explained prosecutor Denis King.
Beyond losing his driver’s license for 12 months, thanks to the prompt accumulation of 14 penalty points, Mr. Secker has also been hit with a 150 GBP fine.
Ruling magistrates said the fine would have been 500 GBP but the decision was made to reduce it is as Mr. Secker is unemployed and on benefits.
