Microsoft’s next-generation home console is codenamed ‘Durango’ and developers are already getting to grips with it at a special event in the English capital, if a loose-lipped Twitter post by Crytek’s Sean Tracy is anything to go by.

“Enjoying the Durango developers summit in London,” tweeted Crytek’s senior technical artist yesterday. “So far, great swag and interesting talks.”

Tracy’s tweet seemingly adds weight to a Kotaku report published earlier this month, in which the gaming blog claimed the operating code name for the Xbox 360’s official successor was… surprise, surprise… Durango.

Responding to the tweet via The Verge, Microsoft was quick to adopt the standard “we don’t comment on rumors or speculation” standpoint.

However, it did take the opportunity to pat itself on the back regarding the longevity of the Xbox 360 and its related gameplay-enhancing facets.

“As an innovator we’re always thinking about what is next and how we can push the boundaries of technology like we did with Kinect,” it boasted.

“We believe the key to extending the lifespan of a console is not just about the console hardware, but about the games and entertainment experiences being delivered to consumers.”

Tracey’s tweet has since been deleted.

In related news, our friends over at Videogamer reported in June of 2011 that Crytek already had Microsoft’s next home console in its possession and the development team were hard at work crafting TimeSplitters 4. Crytek swiftly denied this rumor.
